Lateral Thinking Tool - Stimulation

Wang Qiong: De Bono China's chief lecturer

Creative inspiration, sometimes comes from someone inadvertently, an unexpected visual experience, and even from a crazy idea that makes people laugh and cry.
There have been such a story: there is a river upstream of many factories, factory production of sewage seriously affected the lives of the lower reaches of the people. Therefore, the people always complain, or even abuse. Local officials often heard some people say fiercely: "really want them to drink these stench of water!" There is an official like to think, he thought, "how can we let them drink it?" So, he Came up with such a program: let the factory inlet on the downstream, the outlet on the upstream. As a result, the factory would have to think of ways to govern, or can not produce. The official then submitted a bill requiring the government to enact a new law requiring all factories to build their outlets upstream. Thus solving this problem.

The reason why the thinking officials love the residents of the complaints in front of "springboard", and come up with excellent solutions. This is the level of thinking inside the most attractive tool for creativity, inspire (in the level of thinking called "PO", see Figure 2).

In Figure 2 we can see that our usual solutions are generally directly from A to B, always in the conventional "main road" to think and solve the problem. Once a "PO" is found as a springboard, it is easy to jump to scenario C. As a result, we find a new concept or idea, that is, to find a new path, which is very easy to find similar new routes or new programs.

The key to applying "PO" is not to say "no" at once, but to explore minds to see where such a bold idea leads us, leading to a new and better course of exploration. Ideas, and then enhance the quality and feasibility of ideas.

"PO" allows us to learn more than right and wrong thinking, in addition to "Yes" (positive) and "No" (negative) can also take a third attitude "PO" approach to the problem. As shown in Figure 3.

"Start" and "Challenge" use the beginning is the same: the first list of the status quo and the existing way of doing things, and then by reverse, exaggerated and other means to stimulate, and then stimulate these ideas, and even crazy Idea as a "springboard" movement to a new point of view up.

The third step: harvesting, processing and processing
In the second step, we came up with a lot of ideas. Some ideas may seem to be implemented, and some ideas are too generalized in just one direction, there are only embryonic form. We can sort them harvest. And then re-processing, conceptualizing, and implementing those conceptual ideas and embryonic ideas.

For example, there is a packaging plant, with old newspapers, bottles and cups to reduce the damage to the transport process. But the staff often work at the time to see old newspapers, so the efficiency of packaging is seriously reduced. Executives were furious and angry about the idea of blinded their eyes. But this method simply can not operate. However, if the use of concept extraction: What is the idea of the characteristics? How do I fix the problem? What is behind the concept? We will see that the concept of this idea is to shield people to see things. So the harvest of possible methods are: off lights, goggles, sunglasses, set the baffle, but these ideas will increase the cost or make normal uncomfortable. So, think again, there are people who can shield things to see it? Blind or illiterate. As a result, after processing, after the solution is that the company really recruited a number of blind operators, not only improve efficiency, but also become a local rich corporate responsibility charity.

Step 4: Select the best solution
With a number of options, we can screen all the options, select the most prominent of the program, and then compare them, and in accordance with the specific elements of evaluation. Such as demand, value, resources, cost, feasibility, legal and other factors to conduct a comprehensive evaluation, the final selection of the best option.

In this step, the yellow cap (value), the black hat (risk), and the green hat (serious creativity) in the six thinking caps provide the initial direction for the evaluation of the program: How important is an idea? Is it worth thinning or landing? How high the feasibility? What are the main risks? What are the inappropriate places? Is there a new alternative to managing risk and reducing costs? Refine the program should be what and so on. After that, the paper analyzes, scores and evaluates the selected programs in terms of demand, value, feasibility, acceptability, cost, risk, suitability and uniqueness. Which is divided into a minimum, 10 is the highest. After a detailed and objective assessment of the above methods, the final selection of the best solution.

Often, we experience the external environment of debate and conflict to change old ideas and generate new ideas. But this method does not enable us to fundamentally change. Horizontal thinking method allows us to gain insight and reorganization of the information obtained in a controlled manner in a controlled manner under the new ideas to change their old ideas, the original perception and way of doing things. From its own internal change, in order to achieve the true sense of the "change from the inside out."

Horizontal thinking is a set of creativity training tools that enable us to learn creative processes and methods for problem solving and problem solving, generate new values, and enhance the competitiveness of individuals and teams. For enterprises, the specific value of the performance in: to improve the organizational and individual innovation ability; to identify the problem, the definition of innovation and need to work direction; application of normative tools for creative thinking; harvest thinking results, in-depth development; for innovation To provide a platform and micro-culture; break through the routine, to change the habit of dealing with the original problem.
Innovation is no longer an old-fashioned brainstorm, nor is it an artist-inspired dash, but a new value that can be gained through systematic thinking and steps in horizontal thinking. "Horizontal thinking" allows us to jump out of the "thinking of the box" so that we think more colorful, more quality, so that "mind sailing!
